Some of you might already know that gardening, and taking pictures of the garden, are what I love to do. I’m not a writer. In fact, I’m quite dyslexic. So the best way to put together anything in written format, begins with me dictating into my phone whilst walking the dogs. As I speak into my phone right now, the frosty air turning my breath into a white mist… fingers freezing… its such a good feeling!
The later sunrise and shorter days means savouring those incredible frosty mornings. All the dahlias are boxed up and tucked away for the winter, while the planting of tulip bulbs continues.
My newsletters will be a combination of things to do in the garden this month (a favourite plant, tree or flower that’s catching my eye in our garden) with some extra bits and pieces of what’s going on here.

STAR PLANT OF THE MONTH
Garrya elliptica ‘James Roof’ silk-tassel bush.
Every month I will talk about one or two star plants that are catching my eye in our garden.This month it has to be the Garrya elliptica ‘James Roof’ silk-tassel bush.
We planted this tough evergreen shrub here about 15 years ago. They can grow up to at least 4 m tall and wide, but with careful pruning can be kept slightly smaller. Ours is grown against a north wall that we pass daily. Its striking silken tassels from now until February are always a talking point to anyone that sees them, they catch the light beautifully and are also a striking addition in a Christmas wreath. I wouldn’t be without it for its winter joy that it brings throughout the winter months.
